She completed her graduate studies in Canada at the University of Lethbridge (MSc) and McMaster University (PhD). Her multi-disciplinary research program joins theories and methodologies from biology, psychology, endocrinology and animal behaviour to understand the evolution and social functions of nonverbal vocal communication in humans and other mammals.

As an emerging leader in the field of voice studies, Dr. Pisanski has published over thirty research papers in top-tier academic journals including Nature, Trends in Cognitive Sciences, Biology Letters, and Animal Behaviour, and has received numerous prestigious awards including the Emerging Researcher Award, Womensphere Emerging Leader, and the Canadian Psychological Association’s Certificate of Academic Excellence. With the central aim of exploring both the evolutionary origins and modern-day implications of human behaviour, Dr. Pisanski’s research hopes to gain new insight into why we do what we do, and what we gain from it.
